Alteryx Designer is an advanced software that empowers businesses and individuals to transform raw data into valuable insights. Installing Alteryx Designer may seem like an easy thing to do, but did you know that you can have 2 Designers on the same machine? What about the Predictive Tools that are installed separately?
In this blog, we will guide you through the installation process of the 2023.1 Alteryx Designer Admin version. If you’re an existing user, we will also help you navigate the changes in the partner license portal and adapt to the new user interface.
Alteryx Admin vs. non-Admin
When downloading Alteryx, you can either select the admin or non-admin versions. The differences between both are:
Both Admin and non-Admin versions can co-exist on the same computer, and this is useful when you want to test a newer version without removing your older one. Just be aware that if your company uses Alteryx Server, your Alteryx Designer version must match your Server version. Otherwise, you will get errors when uploading workflows to the Gallery.
If you already have Alteryx installed and want to check which version you’re running, open Designer, go to “Help,” and then “About.” A window will open showing you your current version and if you have Admin (Elevated) or non-Admin (Non-Elevated).
Predictive Tools
On the Alteryx Designer download page, you’ll also see an option to download the Predictive Tools, which is a package of tools that allows you to use R-based tools for Predictive Analysis. This is an optional package, and it doesn’t require any additional license. If you’re not planning on using Predictive Analysis, you don’t need to download the Predictive Tools installer.
This package also comes both in Admin and Non-Admin. When downloading it, choose the same option you did for your Alteryx Designer, and be sure that the versions are also matching.
Downloading
To get an Alteryx Designer installer, access the Alteryx Licensing portal with your partner account. If you don’t have one, you can create it on the same link. After you log in, you should be able to see all downloadable installers under “Product Downloads.”
If you can’t see any options, try reaching out to your company’s Alteryx License Manager or Alteryx Admin.
To get started downloading Alteryx Designer hit the “Download” button right next to the Alteryx Designer section. If you get any error messages such as “Couldn’t fetch data,” just refresh your page. Your session might have timed out.
A new window will show up with available Alteryx Designer versions. Select the one you need by clicking on the Radio button next to it and click “Next.”
In the next section, click on the “Download” button next to the type of installer you want to get. Remember that Admin Predictive Tools can only be installed on an Admin Designer version.
If you’re using Alteryx Server in your company, be sure that your Alteryx Designer version matches your Alteryx Server. If you have any questions, reach out to your Alteryx Admin.
Installing Alteryx Designer
After the download is done, double-click on the Alteryx Designer installer to get started. As we’re installing the admin version, a window will appear asking for Admin privileges.
If you have previous versions installed, a window will show up telling you that they need to be uninstalled before continuing. Just click on “Yes” and wait.
Once it finishes, the initial window of the Installer will show up. Just hit “Next.”
Read the EULA, accept the prompt, and hit “Next” again. This will show a window asking where you want Alteryx to be saved. We recommend keeping the default path unless you were instructed to change it.
Click “Next” and then “Install,” then just wait a little bit until the installation is complete.
Once the installation is done, you can either run Alteryx or just deselect the box and close the installer.
Installing Predictive Tools
The installation of the Predictive Tools is very similar to the Designer. Double-click the installer and grant admin rights. A window will show up, and you just must hit “Next.” On the next Window, a GNU license appears. Read through it, check the box, and hit “Next.”
Then just hit “Install” and wait again.
As a Designer install, you can select to run Alteryx after completion.
Installing the Intelligence Suite
Alteryx Intelligence Suite is a package of tools that allow users to create complex solutions regarding Computer Vision, Text Mining, and Automated Machine Learning. This package can be downloaded on the same page as Designer.
The usage of the Intelligence Suite requires a specific license, and this is not a free package like the Predictive Tools.
Like the Predictive Tools, you must download a version that matches your Alteryx Designer.
After selecting the version, you also must specify if you want the Admin or Non-Admin installer.
Once the download finishes, double-click the installer, grant admin rights if you’re installing the admin version, and wait for the installer verification. Once it opens, just hit “Next.”
Wait until the Intelligence Suite installation happens.
After the installation, you can either select to open Alteryx or just close the installer.

I hope this blog helped provide you with instructions on installing Alteryx Designer, Predictive Tools, and the Alteryx Intelligence Suite.
